25 Random Things

At the request of a dear friend, I recently created this list for my Facebook page. I thought I would add it here as a fun, very random snapshot of me. I’ll probably blog about one or more of these things at some point . . .

1. I can’t walk past dark chocolate without partaking of its rich delightfulness.
2. When I was in second grade I was almost kidnapped by some shady characters who offered me candy for a ride in their station wagon. Good thing it wasn’t dark chocolate, I guess.
3. I grew up in the pits at the race track – some of my earliest words were “jucky stucks” for the injector stacks on my dad’s funny car.
4. I can’t play cards without feeling compelled to straighten the discard pile regularly.
5. I really, really, really, really like to scrapbook and have recently become more adventurous with my photo taking. I’m an artist-wanna-be, I think. But, I’m not really sure if I have it in me or not.
6. I started blogging in 2008 and have found that I really like it but get frustrated because I don’t keep up with it. That’s changing though.
7. My husband calls me a hippie – it’s partially true. I compost and I feel guilty about throwing away anything that can be recycled. I try homeopathic ideas first and I would totally eat and clean all organic if it weren’t so dang expensive.
8. I write and edit for a magazine part-time. It’s fun and keeps my mind “sharp”.
9. One of my absolute greatest passions is studying the Bible and helping other women study it. It’s the most fascinating book I’ve ever encountered. Truly.
10. I love books and always check-out way more than I can read at once. I especially get sucked into children’s fantasy literature. I just finished Brisinger in the Erragon series. Dragons are pretty cool, I’ve decided.
11. I am desperately trying to overcome the fact that I’m not much of an athlete. So, I’m working at becoming a runner – making plans for my first half-marathon in Cinci this spring.
12. I’m secretly afraid that I’ll be one of those people that has lots of interests; but gets distracted by something new and therefore never finishes what she starts. Unfinished projects haunt me and make me feel like a failure. I’m not kidding.
13. I LOVE to laugh with my husband, Rick. He is so funny. I love being the person that gets to see all of who he is.
14. I cry – often. I used to hate it about myself but I’ve come to appreciate the way it helps me empathize with people. If you cry, I’ll always start to cry with you.
15. My dream trip would be to visit the British Isles – specifically Ireland – and have tea & scones with regular, local people. Ride my bike with the sheepies crossing the road and stay in a real B&B. That sort of thing. Oh, and, wear a cozy sweater made by someone there.
16. My mom taught me to be resourceful and confident. As a result, I feel like I can figure out just about anything I need to do in my day to day (even if it secretly scares the crap out of me). If I don’t already know how to do it, I just look it up or read about it and go for it. That’s what she always did.
17. My favorite hymn EVER is Amazing Love (sometimes called And Can it Be). Holey Moley, does THAT get me crying. God’s relentless love for me is still hard for me to really believe.
18. I have a thing for new paper and pens. It’s not a very “hippie” thing when there is perfectly good scrap paper around. But, a brand new journal is, like, so wonderful; don’t you think?
19. One thing that surprises a lot of people about me is that I really like physical humor. I crack up when someone falls down or gets whacked or whatever. So hilarious.
20. I can’t get used to texting and e-mail trends that leave words mispelled or uncapitalized. It’s just wrong.
21. My favorite sound in the world is listening to my kids laugh together.
22. I’m extremely loyal. I hate traitors in stories. Especially cowardly ones. Makes my stomach turn.
23. I usually can’t wait for the ending of a book; so I read the end pretty early on and then can relax and enjoy the rest of the book. Rick says that that’s demented. If it’s a good book, I’m really sad when it’s over because I feel like those people are my friends.
24. I’m a pretty good cook and love to be in the kitchen creating meals for my family; but I almost ALWAYS burn grilled cheese sandwiches.
25. I view cell phones as a necessary evil but not really a good thing. I know, it’s blasphemy to say such a thing in this day and age. But, I really don’t like them much.
