Cultivating Hospitality: Day 1
It all started back in 1988. I was a college freshman. And, the tiny seeds of hospitality were taking root in my heart.
Surely I had seen my mom share hospitality for years prior to that year; but it was only then that I was actually noticing it. And dreaming about what it would be like to open my own home to others someday. I bought books, talked about it with my BFF while we watched Anne of Green Gables, watched other older-than-me women and started paying more attention to my own mom’s special touches. And I learned a lot. Truth be told, I still am. Learning, I mean.
Mostly I’ve learned that hospitality is more art than science. That it’s more about cultivating a spirit and less about accumulating more stuff.
For the next 31 days I’d like to talk with you about all of that. I’d like to share my own heart and read your comments and just have a virtual chat. About what it means to cultivate a spirit of hospitality. I’ll be honest, it’s going to be a stretch for me to write for 31 days straight. So, I’m linking up with some other writers for accountability. They’re all doing 31 days of something. You can go check them out here.
I’d love it if you kept coming back for all 31 days. I bet I could learn a thing or two from you too. Actually, if I could, I’d make you a cup of vanilla tea and invite you into my living room. But, I can’t. So, go make your own tea and sit in a cozy spot and I’ll invite you into my thoughts instead.
(Oh, and, I will be adding a link for each new day’s post at the top of this one, so always come back here if you get lost. Not that you would. Get lost, I mean. Me neither.)
Grace and peace,
