School-Talk Etiquette

mommy blogsHave you ever been in one of those awkward conversations where you realize you and your friend have divergent views? I have. Especially now that I’m a mom. Moms can be pretty passionate about their parenting choices.

Schooling is an especially hot topic. I’ve seen my fair share of carnage from school conversations. I’ve had my feelings hurt. And probably been the hurter of feelings.

So, what can we do? I’m writing about it over at The Better Mom today. I’d love it if you’d follow me over and even chime in on your perspectives!

Shannon, Thank you so much for writing that post. We send our children to public school, by choice, prayful choice. I have definitely felt intimidated by so many homeschool bloggers. I am thankful we have such amazing choices in this country, we are all so blessed. I appreciated your thoughts and perspective and hope it is taken to heart by everyone who reads. As believers, we need to support each other with the ultimate goal that Jesus name be glorified and spread throughout this world.

Ingrid! Thanks so much for your comment – it encourages my heart! I’ll take a sec to pray for you and your kiddos as you follow the Lord into the public schools.

    Shannon,
I cannot tell you how much I appreciated, and how timely your post was today.

I absolutely loved reading through your responses to the comments that were left.

I am a public school teacher, and my oldest son is in Kindergarten at the school where I teach. I have been incredibly intimated by the forceful and and almost judgmental of many homeschool bloggers… sometimes their stance is so rigid that there is no room for the Holy Spirit and it breaks my heart as a mom who is trying to do the best that I can…

    So…
    Thank you so much.
I feel like the timing of this post, and your words, were a gift from my Heavenly Father… and confirmation that although it may not fit the traditional model, how we are raising our children and the choices that we are making are right in the center of His will for us. For right now anyway.
    :)
    Thank you again.

Yay! I’m so glad to an encouragement. I’ll assume that it was all God’s timing. I’m sorry you’ve had some hard brushes with homeschooling bloggers. I think it’s a hard to thing to be passionate about something while also giving room for differing perspectives. I had a seminary prof once who told us to be very careful about the line between conviction and opinion. It can be a very fuzzy one! Blessings to you as you seek God’s will for your son’s education!! I’ll be sharing a series later this month with more of my perspectives and our journey toward public schools – knowing full well what the challenges and trade-offs would be.

Thanks Desire! So glad that you were encouraged. Sometimes I feel like I just sort of tap out what God is doing in our midst… and hope it can bless someone else as well. Thanks for the follow!
